Rising from the green hills of Oltrepò Pavese, the Tower of Casarasco is among the oldest surviving medieval structures in the region, dating back to the 9th century. It forms part of the remains of a castle that once commanded the Nizza Valley, and carries with it a remarkable history. It was here that the miracle of Saint Alberto is said to have taken place, giving rise to the hermitage of the same name – a fine example of Lombard Romanesque architecture. In 1903, a meteorite landed on land adjoining the property; fragments are today preserved in natural history museums across Italy.
