Mansions in the Greater Warsaw Area: Falenty

In the past, the area around Falenty was a popular hunting ground of the Mazovian nobility. The town southwest of Warsaw is also known for its palace and the recreation and nature reserve "Raszynskie Ponds", which today covers an area of more than 150 hectares and adjoins directly northwest of the castle park.

The palace - regionally also known as "Pałac Opackich" according to its builder Zygmunt Opacki - dates back to the beginning of the 17th century and was initially a simple Baroque building. In the middle of the 19th century, the new owner, Countess Maria of Tyzenhauz, commissioned a representative reconstruction - the manor house received four corner towers, side extensions and, on the park side, a four-column portico with a glazed veranda. An outbuilding was built to the southwest, connected to the main building via an arcaded gallery.

Today, the agricultural research center "ITP - Instytut Technologiczno-Przyrodniczy" is located on the castle premises. However, the institute mainly uses the outbuildings. The manor house itself is empty and in need of renovation. It cannot be visited at present (2022).

By the way, drone pictures of the beautiful pond and natural landscape are not possible. The nature reserve is a no-fly zone, as Warsaw Chopin Airport is located in the immediate vicinity to the northeast.
